Higher Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism Management
Overview
The Higher Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism programme aims to develop the skills and knowledge required to be a competent and effective manager in the exciting hospitality and tourism industry. Students will learn the key aspects of hotel and resort management, tourism and event management, management techniques, marketing and finance, and more.
Industrial attachment is an integral part of our students’ learning process in this programme. Students have the opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge about the industry and their career prospects, enhance their social and communication skills and apply theories to real-life scenarios.
Upon completion of this programme, students may apply for further studies at overseas universities.
Industrial Attachment (IA)
This is a paid internship programme. If the IA cannot be completed due to unsuccessful placement, students will study two additional modules as below:
Hospitality Operations Management
Communication Management in the Hospitality Industry
- Legal Aspects of Hospitality and Tourism
- Hospitality, Travel and Tourism Marketing
- Financial Aspects of Hospitality, Travel and Tourism
- ICT in the Hospitality Industry
- Event Management
- Research Methods for Hospitality, Travel and Tourism
- Hotel and Resort Management
- Issues in Hospitality and Tourism Industry
- Tourism Planning and Development
- Managing People in the Hospitality, Travel and Tourism Industry
- Industrial Attachment (6 months)
2 additional modules will be taken if Industrial Attachment cannot be completed.
Course Assessment
Examinations, assignments, projects, presentations, class tests, and/or practical tests.
Age
17 years old*
Academic Qualification
Any of the following or equivalent:
- Obtained at least an E at GCE A level in any 2 subjects
- TMC Diploma/Foundation Diploma
- International Baccalaureate Diploma (at least 24 points)
- NUS High School Diploma
- Polytechnic Diploma
- Diploma (in Accounting / Business / Management / IT / Computing / Hospitality / Psychology) from Private Education Institutions (assessed on a case by case basis)
English Proficiency
Any of the following or equivalent:
- At least a C6 at GCE O English
- Completed a Diploma or equivalent where medium of instruction is English
- Pass an English online test and an interview with the Dean/HOD/designate
Mature Candidates
≥ 30 years old with 8 years of work experience
* Students must be at least 18 years old at the time of Industrial Attachment.

Completed High School or Year 12
English Proficiency
Any of the following or equivalent:
- IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL (Paper) ≥ 547 or TOEFL (Computer) ≥ 210 or TOEFL (Internet) ≥ 78 or TOEIC ≥ 780
- Other qualifications equivalent to High School or Year 12 where the medium of instruction is English
- Attend and pass Certificate in English up to Upper Intermediate B level (or previously, Academic
